History: Peter Monteverdi constructed his first car
when he was 17 years old. While still in his early twenties,
he formed his own racing team, MBM (Monteverdi Binningen Motors),
and he competed successfully in many international events,
piloting his own cars. A near fatal crash in a Porsche powered
Formula 1 MBM ended his career. In the early sixties, Monteverdi
developed a very successful business distributing Ferraris
Lancia, BMW, and Rolls Royce. However, following a disagreement
with Enzo Ferrari, at age 33, he decided to design and build
his own Gran Turismo. This car is a 2+2 and the most numerous
of all the Monteverdi models built. Other Monteverdi's that
have been owned by this enthusiast over the years include
the Hai (mid engined supercar), the first and second series
2 seater GT's, the 375S and 375SS, and the 4 door sedans,
the 375/4 and Sierra. Peter Monteverdi died in 1998 at age
65 years.
Production: The High Speed 375L was introduced at the
1969 Geneva Salon and was Monteverdis first 2 + 2, four
seat car and was built on a stretched (by 6 inches) 375S chassis.
A total of 66 375/Ls were built and these represent
about 60% of all Monteverdi production, of all types.
