History: This car is a so called “one off”. It was built by and for the US TVR importer, Gerry Sagerman during the period between the end in production of factory-built Tuscans in 1970 and prior to the debut of the new V6 M series cars in 1972. It carries a unique Vin # JDG 771 B302 which denotes the builders’ first name initials: “J” for Joey Bishop, Gerry Sagerman’s chief technician, “D” for David Hines, the ex TVR development engineer and “G” for Gerry Sagerman. “771” denotes the build date of July 1971 and “B302” denotes the Boss 302 motor. The Boss motor was one of two supplied directly by Carroll Shelby and rated at 290 hp. (the second motor was shipped to TVR UK and used in Martin Lilley’s own, identical specification ”one off”. During the build, the chassis and suspension were upgraded to support the enhanced performance and extra weight. Additionally, the modifications included a Salisbury Jaguar E Type rear end, and a high efficiency Modine cross flow radiator to offset anticipated over-heating issues. The rear quarters were reformed and made subtly bigger to accommodate wider tires and to overcome “squat” under fierce acceleration. In the cabin, electric windows were an added luxury feature.
Subsequently, this motor was upgraded to 425 hp by noted dragster racer “Big Daddy” Don Garlits.
This car has had only 4 owners (the last owner having the car for 34 years). It has 23,000 documented miles. Apart from 2 outings to the Detroit “Woodwork Dream Cruise”, it has been in storage for nearly 40 years over the 45 year period, 1974 through 2019.
