History: The CV8 evolved from the 541S model that preceded
it. An interesting feature of the chassis was to seal the
mail chassis rails and use them as vacuum reservoirs for the
brake servo circuitry. Apart from a new body design, the main
change was the substitution of a Chrysler 5.9 liter V8 in
place of the 4 liter, 6 cylinder Austin engine previously
used in the 541S model. The CV8 was introduced at the Earls
Court Motor Show in 1963.
Production: In total there were 461 CV8s built over
the 5 year, 1962 to 1966 period. 70 Mark Is were built
before Mark II emerged in 1963. The Mark II version featured
the addition of Armstrong Selectaride adjustable rear dampers
and minor interior and exterior detail changes. The most significant
change was the substitution of 6.3 liter engine in place of
the Mark Is 5.9 liter engine. 250 Mark IIs were
built. The Mark III was launched in 1965 and featured a revised
front headlight treatment, new bumpers, a deeper windshield
and lower cowl and a more luxurious interior with a burl walnut
dashboard. 141 Mark IIIs were built. This particular
car was the last CV8 built.
