History: The prototype fastback Interceptor coupe was unveiled at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1966. Designed by Touring, the first 60 cars were built in Italy by Vignale. Due to the poor build quality, production was hastily transferred to Jensen’s UK factory in West Bromwich. While fast back coupes and convertibles represented 99.4% of production, the “ Notchback” Coupe (just 47 examples) was introduced in 1975 as a last-ditch effort to save the company. Starting with an unfinished convertible body shell, the “notchback” design was quite different from the “fastback” design of the original Interceptor. The Coupe had angular rear side windows with a darkened glass panel running across the roof. The rear windshield utilized the rear windshield of a Jaguar X6.
Production: A total 7142 Interceptors of all types were built between 1966 and 1976.
MK 1 (1024), Mk 11 (1128), SP (232), MK 111 (3450), Convertibles (509), Coupe (47).
