History/Production: The 6-cylinder CB 1000 was introduced in 1979, some 6 years behind the less developed Benelli Sei (6 cylinder).  At the time of introduction, the CBX 1000 was the quickest straight-line production motorcycle ever made.  While big the engine was only 2 inches wider than the Honda CB 750 four cylinder. This was due to excellent packaging; specifically placing the ignition rotor and alternator behind, rather than at the ends of the transversely mounted motor.

Beginning with a factory spec CBX 1000, the builder of this bike, strengthened the frame with additional gusseting, replaced the fuel tank and seat with custom made aluminum (Mike Hailwood Honda “RC 166 style”) Gran Prix gas tank and café racer seat.  The transition was further complete with the addition of a RC 166 fairing replica in Hailwood race colors, the deletion of disc brakes in favor of super large Ceriani brake drums mounted to spoked rims, front and rear.
