History/Production: The genesis to the Bimota name is the first two letters of the three founder’s names: Valerio Bianchi “BI”, Giuseppe Morri “Mo” and legendary motorcycle designer, Massimo Tamburini “TA” The Bimota company was founded on the premise that while Japanese motorcycles had the most advanced engines in existence, their frames were too flexible and their suspension systems too archaic to safely handle the power they produced. The daring and technically advanced SB2 combination seemed to date, by at least a decade, any other sport bike available at the time.
The SB2 was the first “street” motorcycle Bimota produced. Previous Bimota’s were either “one offs” built for racing purposes, or in the case of the Honda powered HB1, were “specials” with only 10 examples being built. The SB2 was commissioned by Suzuki and were available in both kit and fully assembled form. There were a total 140 SB2’s built. This particular SB2 has a Yoshimura performance kit installed.
